The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency operates under the Ministry of Energy. Its mission is to support and promote clean energy production and consumption, and aid in the development of clean energy technology commercially for both domestic consumption and export. It is responsible for the regulation, supervision, promotion, and assistance of activities associated with clean energy production and development.

Responsible for Thailand's Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund, which aims to stimulate financial sector involvement in energy efficiency projects. It does this by offering capital at no cost to Thai banks, which they then use to provide low-cost loans to energy efficiency projects.
