Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. (KREDL)

Overview:

KREDL is a state-owned agency which was formed in 1996 so as to facilitate the development of non-conventional energy sources.

Its key roles include:

  • Interfacing between the government, its various agencies, and the community of developers.
  • Investigating potential renewable energy sources.
  • Inviting applications from private sector developers.
  • Advising the government on policy matters.
  • Assisting developers in obtaining statutory clearances.
  • Monitoring projects.
  • Compiling project performance information.
  • Acting as a spokesperson for developers of renewable energy.
  • Disseminating information.

KREDL also administers the Akshaya Shakthi Nidhi Trust (Green Energy Fund), which aims to finance renewable energy projects. The trust is expected to have a duration of 5 years and will be used primarily for land acquisition and land development activity for the rapid establishment of renewable energy projects.

The Akshaya Shakthi Nidhi Trust has seed money of Rs 500 crores, Rs 250 crores of which were contributed by the State Government and the rest is to be raised by an investment management company as appointed by KREDL through bonds or schemes.
