BANCOMEXT

Overview:

BANCOMEXT is the development bank of the Mexican government and is primarily in charge of promoting foreign trade and attracting foreign investment. The mission of the Bank is to boost the growth of Mexican enterprises in order to increase their participation in global markets by offering financial and export promotion services to strengthen their competitiveness. BANCOMEXT supports the development of clean energy as part of this mission.

Sustainable Guarantee Programme
BANCOMEXT implements a guarantee fund for sustainable projects through Mexican financial intermediaries. At present this programme is at the pilot stage and only includes energy efficiency projects.

Since 2005, BANCOMEXT has also established lines of credit from other development banks to help finance clean and sustainable projects. These include the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the KFW Bankengruppe, and the European Investment Bank. Under arrangements such as these, BANCOMEXT has financed projects involving wind plants, water treatment, and energy efficiency improvements in production plants.

Annual budget:


The budget for the pilot Sustainable Guarantee Program amounts to $35 million.


The financing lines established by BANCOMEXT break down as follows:
JBIC - $100 million, with a term of up to 16 years.
KFW Bankengruppe - $50 million, with a term of up to 10 years.
European Investment Bank - $50 million, with a term of up to 15 years.
